UOB Partners with AWS to Advance Cloud and AI-Powered Banking Across ASEAN

United Overseas Bank (UOB) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to explore cloud computing and artificial intelligence solutions aimed at modernizing banking operations and improving customer experiences across Southeast Asia.

Announced on October 9, 2026, the multi-year collaboration will focus on developing a hybrid-cloud infrastructure model that combines UOB's existing technology systems with AWS's cloud, data analytics and AI capabilities. The initiative covers the bank's operations in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

A central part of the agreement involves exploring a dedicated cloud environment in Singapore, designed to support data security, operational resilience and compliance with regulatory requirements across different markets. The proposed model would allow UOB to modernize its technology infrastructure while maintaining appropriate control over sensitive banking information.

The partnership will also explore the use of generative AI to improve customer engagement, automate internal processes and develop more personalized financial services. UOB plans to assess how Amazon Bedrock can work alongside its existing enterprise AI platform to support applications ranging from employee productivity tools to customer-facing banking solutions.

Employee development represents another focus of the collaboration, with AWS expected to provide training and skills development programs covering cloud technologies, AI, data analytics, cybersecurity and regulatory compliance.

Lawrence Goh, Head of Group Technology and Operations at UOB, emphasized the importance of secure infrastructure and responsible AI adoption in supporting the bank's long-term digital transformation strategy. Meanwhile, Jaime Vallés, AWS Vice President and Managing Director for Asia Pacific, highlighted the opportunity to combine regional banking expertise with advanced cloud technology.

The agreement reflects growing cooperation between financial institutions and technology providers as banks across Southeast Asia invest in digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence and data-driven services to strengthen efficiency and competitiveness.
