Circle Targets Expansion into 40 Emerging Markets as Stablecoin Demand Grows

Circle Internet Group is planning to expand its operations into approximately 40 emerging and developing markets as the company seeks to strengthen the global adoption of its USDC stablecoin and blockchain-based financial services.

The expansion plans were outlined by Circle co-founder, Chairman and CEO Jeremy Allaire during an interview with Reuters on October 16, 2026, on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings in Bangkok.

Allaire said the blockchain industry is moving beyond its early adoption phase toward broader commercial deployment, driven by increasing demand for digital payment solutions among businesses, financial institutions, and individual users.

Circle is targeting opportunities across Southeast Asia, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East, where demand for efficient cross-border payments and digital financial infrastructure continues to grow.

The company issues USDC, a US dollar-backed stablecoin used for digital payments, transfers, settlement, and other blockchain-based financial activities.

Circle is also expanding its technology infrastructure to support financial institutions seeking to integrate stablecoins into traditional payment systems.

According to Reuters, USDC circulation reached $73.3 billion in the second quarter of 2026, representing a 19% increase compared with the previous year.

The planned expansion reflects Circle's strategy to position stablecoins as a practical financial tool for international commerce and institutional payments.

Although the company has identified approximately 40 potential markets, detailed country-by-country expansion schedules have not been announced.
