Revolut Secures Gibraltar DLT Licence to Expand Global Crypto Operations

Global fintech company Revolut has secured regulatory approval from the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission to operate as a Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) provider, strengthening its international cryptocurrency business and expanding its regulated digital asset infrastructure.

The authorisation was granted to Revolut Global Digital Assets Limited, the company's Gibraltar-based subsidiary, under the jurisdiction's Financial Services Act. It permits several cryptocurrency-related activities, including the transmission and execution of digital asset orders, custody services and staking.

The approval represents an important milestone in Revolut's broader international growth strategy, providing an additional regulated operating base beyond its established UK and European operations.

Gibraltar has developed a dedicated regulatory framework for distributed ledger technology businesses, requiring authorised providers to meet standards covering governance, security, customer protection and financial crime prevention.

Revolut serves more than 80 million retail customers globally, including over 16 million cryptocurrency users, making digital assets a significant component of its expanding financial services ecosystem.

The new licence is expected to support the company's ambitions to develop its international cryptocurrency offering, although Revolut has not yet disclosed the specific markets that will be served through the Gibraltar entity or provided a detailed launch timetable.

The development highlights the increasing importance of regulatory compliance in the global digital asset industry, as major financial technology companies strengthen their infrastructure to support international expansion and institutional confidence.
