Standard Chartered launches instant trading service for Bitcoin and Ethereum

In a first-of-its-kind move among global banks, Standard Chartered announced on Tuesday the launch of an instant trading service for Bitcoin and Ethereum through its branch in the United Kingdom.

This step represents a significant shift towards integrating digital assets into the bank's traditional banking framework, enhancing Standard Chartered’s position as a financial institution that embraces the latest innovations in the cryptocurrency field.

This initiative aims to align the banking system in the UK with advanced international standards, as well as to enhance global competitiveness. By doing so, Standard Chartered becomes the first international bank to provide instant trading services for cryptocurrencies to institutions, investors, and fund managers on a large scale.

Integrating Digital Assets into the Banking System for Institutions In an official statement, the bank clarified that this move is part of its integration of digital asset trading services for institutional clients, allowing them to now engage in instant trading of Bitcoin (XBT/USD) and Ethereum (XET/USD) through the reliable infrastructure provided by Standard Chartered. The bank emphasized that this development reflects its commitment to providing innovative and secure solutions in the cryptocurrency sector within a regulatory framework.

Bill Winters, CEO of Standard Chartered Group, confirmed that digital assets have become a cornerstone in enabling new paths for financial innovation, noting that the bank is responding to the growing client demand by offering services that empower them to trade and manage risks efficiently and securely.

Global Expertise and Multiple Projects in the Cryptocurrency Field Tony Hall, the bank’s global head of trading, explained that Standard Chartered relies on its extensive experience and advanced risk management frameworks to provide a reliable experience for clients. He added that this initiative clearly demonstrates the bank's alignment with the increasing global trends towards adopting cryptocurrencies, especially as the market expands and demand for these assets rises.

In addition to instant trading, the bank has expanded its services to include custody and trading of digital assets through its corporate and investment bank, in collaboration with Zodia Markets platform. The bank is also participating in tokenization projects for digital assets associated with real markets in cooperation with Libeara.
