Volkswagen to launch range of small electric cars in 2026

Volkswagen plans to launch a range of small electric cars next year as it targets annual sales of several hundred thousand vehicles in the segment over the medium term.

The German auto group announced Monday that it aims to capture a 20% market share in the growing small electric segment.

The electric urban car family will debut in 2026 with four models: two from the Volkswagen brand and one each from Cupra and Skoda.

Each vehicle will have a starting price of around €25,000 ($29,300).

All cars will share the same base platform, which includes driver assistance systems, software, full connectivity, premium technologies from more expensive models, and Volkswagen’s new battery-cell technology.

This technology enables driving ranges of up to 450 kilometers.

The Volkswagen brand will offer a hatchback model called the Polo and an SUV called the Cross Concept.

Cupra will introduce the Raval, a sporty hatchback, while Skoda will launch the Epiq city SUV.
