Tech Stocks Rebound on AI Optimism as Oil and Bond Yields Limit Broader Market Gains

Global technology shares regained momentum on Tuesday as renewed enthusiasm around artificial intelligence lifted several major tech names, although higher oil prices and rising government bond yields prevented the rally from spreading fully across global equity markets.

The latest boost followed a sharp 11% rise in Meta shares on Monday, the company’s strongest one-day performance since April 2024. Investor enthusiasm was linked to growing interest in Meta’s Muse AI assistant, helping revive sentiment toward the wider artificial-intelligence sector after a recent period of weakness.

The rebound extended across semiconductor stocks. Intel gained 12.2% and Arm Holdings jumped 17%, while AMD reached a market capitalization of around $1 trillion. The moves suggested that investors remain willing to back companies positioned to benefit from continued spending on AI infrastructure and applications.

Despite the technology-led optimism, broader markets remained cautious. Europe’s STOXX 600 slipped 0.2% after gaining 1% in the previous session, while Nasdaq and S&P 500 futures were each down around 0.1%, indicating a softer start for U.S. equities.

Energy prices were another source of pressure. Brent crude climbed 1.4% to $101.67 per barrel, recovering after falling more than 3% a day earlier. Oil remains roughly 12% higher during September, keeping concerns about inflation and the future direction of monetary policy firmly in focus.

Bond markets also reflected expectations that interest rates could remain elevated. The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield rose to about 4.969%, while the dollar traded near seven-week highs. Against the Japanese yen, the U.S. currency strengthened to around 157.7, as expectations for faster Bank of Japan tightening weakened.

Investors are also turning their attention to an upcoming meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, with markets watching for signs of progress on trade relations and possible cooperation in areas including artificial intelligence
