LGT Capital Partners Appoints Sascha Gruber as CEO to Lead Next Phase of Global Investment Growth

LGT Capital Partners, a global alternative investment management firm with more than $120 billion in assets under management, has announced the appointment of Sascha Gruber as its next Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant leadership transition as the company prepares for its next phase of international growth.

The appointment, announced on October 29, 2026, will take effect on January 1, 2027, subject to regulatory approval. Gruber will succeed Roberto Paganoni, who has led the Swiss-based investment firm since its establishment in 1998 and will transition to a position on LGT Capital Partners' Group Holding Board.

The leadership change forms part of the company's long-term succession planning, designed to ensure continuity in its investment strategy while introducing new perspectives to support future development.

Gruber brings more than two decades of experience within LGT Capital Partners, having joined the organization in 2002. Throughout his career, he has held several senior leadership responsibilities, including serving on the firm's Executive Committee and various investment committees.

He has played a central role in developing LGT Capital Partners' private markets business, particularly its secondaries investment strategy, which focuses on acquiring existing interests in private investment funds and related assets.

His involvement in the development of the firm's private markets capabilities has contributed to the expansion of its investment platform and its position among international alternative asset managers.

Beyond his investment responsibilities, Gruber has also supported LGT Capital Partners' international expansion, playing an important role in strengthening the company's operations and investment presence across the Americas.

His experience combines investment management, strategic leadership, and international business development, positioning him to oversee the firm's global operations during a period of continued evolution in alternative investment markets.

The appointment follows nearly three decades of leadership under Paganoni, who has overseen LGT Capital Partners' transformation from a newly established investment business into an international alternative investment management organization.

Under his leadership, the company has expanded to manage more than $120 billion in assets on behalf of over 750 institutional investors across 50 countries.

LGT Capital Partners currently employs approximately 1,000 professionals across 16 international offices, including locations in Switzerland, the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, and Australia.

The firm specializes in alternative investment strategies, including private equity, private credit, multi-alternative investments, and diversified investment solutions.

Its investment platform also incorporates sustainable and impact investment strategies, reflecting its long-term approach to portfolio development and institutional asset management.

H.S.H. Prince Max von und zu Liechtenstein, Chairman of LGT Capital Partners, acknowledged Paganoni's contribution to building the organization and expressed confidence in Gruber's ability to guide its future development.

The Chairman emphasized that the company's long-term ownership structure, supported by the Princely Family of Liechtenstein, enables a strategic approach to leadership succession and sustainable business growth.

Paganoni also welcomed the appointment, highlighting Gruber's extensive knowledge of the organization, investment expertise, and contribution to its international expansion.

For his part, Gruber expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in him by the company's leadership and emphasized his commitment to strengthening LGT Capital Partners' investment platform and maintaining relationships with clients and partners worldwide.

The company confirmed that it intends to maintain its existing investment strategy under the long-term ownership of the Princely Family of Liechtenstein.

As a principal investor, LGT Capital Partners will also continue investing its own capital alongside client funds, maintaining an investment structure designed to align the firm's interests with those of its institutional investors.

The leadership transition comes as alternative investment managers continue navigating changing market conditions, evolving institutional investment requirements, and increasing demand for diversified investment strategies.

Gruber's appointment represents an important milestone for LGT Capital Partners, providing leadership continuity while supporting the future development of its international investment management business.

With a longstanding executive taking the helm, the company aims to build on its established investment capabilities, strengthen its global operations, and continue serving institutional investors across international markets.
