London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) has announced the launch of a new £650 million share buyback programme, marking the final phase of its previously announced £3 billion capital return initiative aimed at strengthening shareholder value and optimising its capital structure.
The programme, announced on November 2, 2026, follows LSEG's commitment earlier this year to return capital to shareholders through a series of share repurchases. The latest transaction is expected to conclude the £3 billion buyback programme initially outlined alongside the company's 2025 preliminary financial results in February 2026.
Under the arrangement, LSEG has appointed Citigroup Global Markets Limited to execute purchases of its ordinary shares, with Citi acting as a riskless principal. The repurchases will be conducted on the London Stock Exchange and the Turquoise trading platform, with transactions scheduled to continue until February 24, 2027, unless completed earlier.
LSEG confirmed that the shares acquired under the programme will be cancelled upon settlement, reducing the company's outstanding share capital. The initiative will operate within existing shareholder authorisations and applicable UK market regulations.
The announcement follows LSEG's strong third-quarter performance, during which the group reported an 8.8% increase in total income excluding recoveries on a constant-currency basis. The company also highlighted continued growth across its Markets, FTSE Russell, Risk Intelligence, and Data & Analytics divisions.
Beyond the current programme, LSEG has indicated that it could undertake an additional £1 billion to £1.5 billion in share repurchases during 2027, depending on its financial position and capital allocation priorities.
The latest buyback reinforces LSEG's commitment to shareholder returns while continuing to invest in financial market infrastructure, trading technology, and data-driven services across global capital markets.
